Over the past few months, I’ve been experimenting with my morning routine and writing about my learnings. But has it been a complete waste of time?Â
I wanted to know what AI says is the perfect morning routine for me. I was pleasantly surprised…
Me:Â
Can you design my new morning routine? I usually go to bed at 11pm and I need 8 hours of sleep. I go to work at 9am so my morning routine should finish around 8.45am. I want my morning routine to put me in a good frame of mind so that I can attack the day and work towards my goals.
AI:Â
5:45am - Wake up and drink a glass of water to rehydrate your body after sleeping.
6:00am - Do some light exercise to get your blood flowing and increase your energy levels. This could be a short walk outside, some gentle yoga, or a quick workout routine.
6:30am - Take a shower and get dressed for the day. Use this time to mentally prepare yourself for the day ahead.
7:00am - Eat a healthy breakfast that will fuel your body and give you sustained energy throughout the morning. You could try oatmeal with nuts and fruit, a smoothie bowl, or avocado toast with eggs.
7:30am - Spend some time on a mindfulness practice like meditation, deep breathing, or journaling. This can help you clear your mind and focus your thoughts on your goals for the day.
8:00am - Review your schedule and to-do list for the day to ensure that you're prepared and organized for the day ahead.
8:15am - Spend some time working on a personal development goal, such as reading a book, learning a new skill, or practicing a hobby. This will help you start the day feeling productive and motivated.
8:45am - Finish up your morning routine and head out the door to start your workday.
Remember, it's important to customize your morning routine to your individual preferences and needs. Experiment with different activities and find what works best for you. Good luck!
First things first, the AI clearly doesn’t agree that I need my 8 hours of sleep.Â
Hey AI, I need 8 hours.Â
Nah, you don’t.Â
No, seriously I do, so if I need 8 hours and go to sleep at 11 then 7am would be a pretty good wake up time for me.
WAKE UP AT 5.45AM LIKE A NAVY SEAL AND GET AFTER IT. HARD.
Jeez.
But wake up time aside, I’m pretty happy with the first task of the day. It’s simple, easy to do and makes sense physiologically.
Immediately after the first task, the AI wants to get my blood pumping and recommends a ‘light’ exercise routine which is frankly a relief. I’m surprised after telling me to get up at 5.45am that it didn’t say ‘Run a half marathon shouting YOU DON’T KNOW ME SON as the sun rises and then bench press your 1 rep max’.
Light exercises I can handle.Â
Interestingly, 7am is the first meal of the day. I personally don’t have much of an appetite and like to eat very late in the morning or even wait until lunchtime. Again, I was half expecting it to say ‘EAT RAW LIVER, PRIMAL’.Â
7.30am is when the morning routine starts to kick into gear. And I like that the AI prioritises mindfulness before starting work on any personal development.
And then at 8.15am we have half an hour to work on a personal goal. I like to set a little extra time aside for this task but half an hour everyday compounds substantially after 1 year so I’m happy with this.Â
I found it super interesting that the AI didn’t tell me to pick up my phone, look at social media, turn on the TV, watch the news or play a game. These are all pleasure driven tasks. Tasks like working out, working toward our personal goals and mindfulness are challenging. But those challenges all contribute to our mental and physical wellbeing and that is a great outcome for any morning routine.
So, apart from the fact that the AI clearly wants me to wake up like Jocko Willink and GET AFTER IT I’m really happy with the structure of the morning routine and the recommended tasks. With a little fine tuning to my schedule and lifestyle this could definitely work for me.Â
What do you think, could AI help you reinvent yourself one morning at a time?
