Be honest, the final hour before going to bed is dead weight on the clock face.
It’s a useless hour. It’s too late to do anything productive, most tv is total shit and you’re probably just sitting there thinking about your hopes and dreams.
Hopes and dreams are found in the first hour of the day, not the last.
I am hereby renaming the final hour of the day the “Waste of Space Hour”.
This is not an hour I particularly enjoy.
I’m usually sat on the sofa watching a show I've seen a million times before, or, right now, I’m watching a reality tv programme that I could take or leave if it wasn’t for the wife.
I’ve always struggled with getting up in the morning, but I’m also one for staying up late. I’m useless on less than 8 hours of sleep and so by falling asleep at 1am and setting the alarm at 6.30am, I’m only kidding myself.
I want to get up early as I’m more productive, it improves my mood and I can write this newsletter before anybody else is awake.
But my body seems to ‘need’ 8 hours of sleep. I’m envious of the 6 hour crew.
But I have found it very difficult to wake up early, even with the aid of Alarmy, by keeping my evening routine exactly the same and accepting the terms of the “Waste of Space Hour”.
Staying up past midnight, watching some nonsense on the tv that has very little impact on my life, and then hoping I have the willpower to not hit the snooze button in the morning (even though deep down I know the inevitable will happen).
And even if I do get up when the alarm goes off, I'll be operating on too little sleep, I’ll be unproductive and then I’ll want to sleep for 10 hours the following night and enter the vicious snooze button cycle.
However, by shifting my evening routine back an hour, I can get the amount of sleep that I need and when the alarm goes off it feels easier and I can go about my usual morning routine.
What are you usually doing in the “Waste of Space Hour”?
