Writing a Letter to My 2 WEEK OLD Daughter
Two weeks ago today, my life changed forever. We welcomed our beautiful baby daughter, Theadora, into our lives and family.
Becoming a father has unlocked emotions inside me that I had no idea existed. An indescribable feeling of love, care and protection.
I’ve been thinking for a few weeks about how to capture Theadora’s earliest moments in life. I love watching home videos from my childhood and reminiscing with family about memories that would certainly be forgotten if it wasn’t for the tapes.
Whilst watching her sleeping in my arms a few nights ago, I thought about writing a letter addressed to Theadora to open on her 18th birthday.
A letter that not only captures the present but looks to the future. A letter of wishes, commitments, promises, values, hopes and dreams.
Letter writing is a lost art, replaced by instant messaging and video calls. It’s time to revive this art to create a keepsake, something that can be held and felt.
The world, undoubtedly, will be a very different place in 2041. World events, technological inventions, scientific discoveries, art, culture, fashion, travel and the way we live will change. (18 years ago the iPhone hadn’t been invented yet!)
What will remain a constant through the years will be this letter - a time capsule of thoughts and emotions, a snapshot of the present moment and a bridge to the future.
No one else will read this letter. It’s a father-daughter secret that will be locked away for nearly two decades.
Is there somebody you could write a letter to for them to open in the future?
